STREET BOYS’ COMICS was a series of 5 comic books that were based on numerous interactions and workshops with adolescent street boys and young men in the program states. The series of comics were created in collaboration with the audience coming out of such interactive storytelling workshops. This led to creating further materials for the support system in community.
The comics to create awareness on HIV/AIDS and train them with life skills, stress on safe sexual practices and enable them to make responsible choices for themselves.
Implemented in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Delhi in India.
Using the spoken word of the streets, along with a visual mix of drawing and street photography, the comics discuss safe sexual practices, demystifying issues and create a platform for discussion on issues like stigma and social stereotypes on masculinity. The materials have an empowering tone creating a sense of ownership among the boys.
